    EARLY INTERVENTION/ Infants & Toddler Programs:

    The Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services, in accordance with federal and state laws, provides early intervention services and supports through the Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program (ITP). Each of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions implements a local Infants and Toddlers Program, coordinating services provided by education, health care, social services agencies, and private providers. Services are provided to eligible infants and toddlers and certain services and supports are also available to parents and members of the immediate family. ITP services include: evaluations, case management, assistive technology, audiology, family education, counseling & support, health services related to other early intervention services, medical services for diagnosis, nutrition, psychological services, service coordination, special instruction, transportation, vision services, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. ITP and was designed to help children set developmental milestones. Services are provided at no cost to families.

     

    Your child may qualify for ITP if any of the following are true:

     

    1. ≥25% delay compared with expected development for the child's age in one or or more of the following areas: cognitive (early learning), communication, physical development (fine and gross motor skills), social-emotional skills, and adaptive (self-help).

     

    2. Atypical development or behavior refers to quality of performance. A child may demonstrate skills that are age appropriate but that are of atypical quality. Examples of atypical development/behavior include: refusal to take foods of a certain texture, decreased initiation of communication for social purposes, repetitive or stereotyped patterns of play with objects, etc.

     

    3. Children may be eligible for early intervention services if they have been diagnosed with a physical or mental condition that has a high probability of delayed or atypical development. Examples include, but are not limited to, Down Syndrome, visual or hearing impairment, elevated lead levels, extreme prematurity (birth weight <1200 grams), epilepsy, etc.

    ABA Programs:

    Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the practice of applying the psychological principles of learning theory in a systematic way to modify behavior. The practice is used most extensively in special education and the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but also in healthcare, animal training, and even business. ABA is widely recognized as the only scientifically valid therapy available for treating behavioral issues associated with ASD.

    ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) is an evidence-baed treatment plan for individuals on the spectrum. ABA therapy improves communication skills, strengthens social interaction, and reduces problem behaviors. Currently have locations in Delaware, Maryland and New Jeresey. *Requires documented diagnosis, covered by most insurance plans.
