Searching for a diagnosis?
Always start with a conversation with your doctor responsbile for the care of your loved one. Sometimes babies are born with a clear and evident disability and there seems to be more guidance in situations like that.
Sometimes, a healthy baby is born however and something happens like trauma, or a parent notices a regression in once developed skills. These are the instances where you'd want to speak to your pedicatrician, or care provider. If there's a sudden onset in changed behavior, please seek emergency care, promptly.
Once speaking with the doctor, he or she should be able to direct you to more specialized services. There are many listed below, but likely not everything available. Keep in mind that if you have Medicaid through Maryland, you'll likely only be able to seek care in the state of Maryland. Please contact us if you need additional help or aren't sure what your next step should be.

CDC’s Developmental Milestones | CDC
Another great resource to know if your child is developing at a typical rate is the CDC's Developmental Milestones website. There is also an app for you phone if accessing is easier in that manner. It's truly a great tool- you click on what age your child is and it'll ask you a handful of questions based of of his/her age group and the things that a neurotypical child should be able to do. It allows you to enter multiple kids, and keeps track of what you've entered. The milestone check list covers categories including: Social, Language, Cognitive, Movement, and When to Act Early.
